I started working out when I was 13. Inspired by boxers like heavyweights Ken Norton and Mike Weaver and middleweight Marvelous Marvin Hagler as well as by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, I was determined to get into incredible shape.
Since then, I became a weightlifter, then a lightweight rower in college, then a marathon runner, swimmer, and endurance cyclist. Along the way, I studied nutrition, becoming a vegetarian, then vegan, then back to vegetarian. I also began a meditation practice, which I've now been at for seven years.
Through all this, I've experimented with different fitness equipment and philosophies--bodyweight exercises, barbells and dumbbells, Nautilus machines, resistance bands, weighted clubbells, and aerobic steps.
This Summer I turned 55, which means I've been studying and training for 42 years. And, if I've learned anything from all that experience, it's that the body and mind continue to evolve and change with age.
But aging doesn't mean quitting or conceding. Indeed, if anything, as people pass into the second half of their lives, it's all the more important to stay active, stay fit, eat right, and challenge and expand the mind.
As someone very much into this "next chapter" it's my privilege to be your guide, to provide helpful resources and information, so that you can get your mind and body in shape for this next chapter of your life, so that you ascend the heights and be "Next Chapter Fit."
